Island Polo Club Malta was founded by Steve Vassallo and we are based at the beautiful MonteKristo Estate, an area made up of traditional architecture and set in fields in the southern half of the island. Steve has been playing polo for nearly 40 years and has represented Malta, playing tournaments in several countries. He has played in UK, France, Spain, Italy, Argentina and Ghana.
The club’s focus is to make polo accessible to everyone and it is a great place to learn and to play all year round. Our members range from the experienced player to complete beginners.
Montekristo Estates is a beautiful venue and provides a number of facilities besides the arena. There are function rooms, restaurants and german brewery. After club chukkas we often meet for a drink or bite to eat at the Montekristo Brewery.
We are very social club and besides meeting for beers and food after chukkas, there are various meals organized throughout the year and festive chukkas or tournaments for Christmas, Easter or Halloween.
We also embark on a couple of trips abroad during the year. Our favorite visit is to the Rugby Polo Club in the UK, where we have lessons and play in tournaments.
Just recently our club went to Polo Club Żurawno and had an amazing time.
Horse livery is also available to our members. In fact, the best way to improve is to have your own pony. This will give you the opportunity to ride as often as you want and to practice stick and ball. Steve offers the training of polo ponies and will guide you as to the purchase of a pony to suit your ability and needs.
